Flex
Wheeler Working Out!
By Ron Avidan
Ken 'Flex' Wheeler is a man with a mission. To compete and possibly
win the 2002 Mr. Olympia in Las Vegas. Having qualified for the contest
by placing 3rd at the 2000 Mr. Olympia, Flex has had his ups and downs
in the bodybuilding world. Last year, Flex officially retired from professional
bodybuilding, whereas Flex had realized that his family, and his faith
were more important. But in February, Flex realized that he misses the
sport, and wanted back. He signed a sponsorship contract with Iron-Tek
(Biochem), and started to train again. With Flex feeling that his family
and faith and himself were in focus, bodybuilding could come back into
his life.
Flex
is serious at this too. Working out with his training partner Rico, with
165 pound dumbbells in each hand, with 3 months to go, Flex is training
quite hard in getting to that Olympia shape that can win him the Sandow.
Flex knows that he needs to do it his way, and not to come in too heavy,
like in the past.
Flex
also does not want any more negatives in his life. He questions the people
who call themselves fans who continuously attack him and question his commitments.
Are these people fans or just people who like to stir up trouble. Do they
really care about Flex or just want him to be hurt with many comments that
they make?
Regarding
the drugs in bodybuilding, and Flex's comments when he retired not to take
anymore anabolic steroids, some have insinuated that it looks like Flex
is on the juice again, violating his Christian beliefs? To all those, Flex
responds that he does not have to answer to anyone but God on judgment
day, and to be patient, Flex may have a surprise for all of you in October.
Don't doubt Flex now. Just give him respect.
Flex
definitely is a changed man. Whereas some people constituted Flex has being
quiet and arrogant in the past, Flex feels much better this year than any
other, and has been more open to his fans and to friends. He goes to church
regularly on Sundays, and on June 28, 2002, celebrated his 5 year anniversary
to his beautiful wife Madeline.
Everyone
has his or her own style of training. Flex, while working out on cardio
is quiet, and keeps to himself, while Rico, his training partner, likes
to talk and make jokes. Same goes with training out on weights. Flex is
quiet and is in focus at all times, while Rico is serious when actually
training, but likes to joke around while its Flex's turn. Different styles
of training, but together, Rico and Flex make a good team.
We can't wait to see Flex on stage at the Olympia, for Flex is doing
this one for himself, and will be at the optimal weight, conditioning and
symmetry which he feels will stun the judges.
